12/29/07
With 1/2 a mile left in my 10 mile run on 12/24, I stepped on a metal hoop that caught my right foot in stride, and knocked me off balance. I tried to catch myself, but ended up sprawling in the entrance to an alley. I slid a couple feet, and picked myself up. I was wearing spandex under my shorts, and a long sleeve spandex thermal top. I dusted myself off, and limped/ran the last 1/2 mile home. My right toe was a little painful, but not too bad. By the time I got home, and was stepping into the house, I noticed the front of my shoe was soaked in blood. I got my shoe off and saw a blood soaked sock. My nail was over the top of a pool of blood. Assessing the damage, I had a bad toe, knee scrapes, scrapes all over my right thigh, skinned elbow, a skinned wrist, and a bruised shoulder. The right side of my body was in bad shape. My wife managed to schedule a last-second doctors appointment before they closed for Christmas eve. Luckily, they didn't have to take my toenail off - instead, they just gave me two numbing shots in the toe, and drilled a tiny hole in the nail - she then cleared out the blood, and said the nail most likely will be fine.
I took the rest of the week off and didn't run since my toe continued to not feel too well, and was still not completely healed.
